Private Treatment
To create beautiful smiles we offer the latest revolutionary orthodontic technology.
Private treatment is available for both adults and children, with flexible payment options. In choosing the private treatment option you are making an investment as there are no waiting lists and no restrictions on the appliances we can use. This means the most sophisticated methods of treatment are fully available, giving remarkable advantages over traditional orthodontic approaches, faster treatment time and greater patient comfort. Private patients also have more choice of appointment times with greater flexibility. Early morning, after school and holiday appointments may be arranged.
For children under the age of 18 years, NHS orthodontic treatment may be available for moderate to severe problems where there is a dental health need for treatment. However, children with only mild irregularities of the teeth may not necessarily qualify for NHS orthodontic treatment so may choose private care.
With private care, we are able to offer a wider variety of treatment options which have several benefits.
Crystal clear ‘Ice’ Sapphire brackets are transparent and barely visible, allowing you to show your smile rather than your braces. This aesthetic approach is favoured by adults who need a fixed appliance but who would like a discreet option.
Clear ‘Invisible’ Aligners are wire free so there is no need to bond metal onto the teeth. A series of custom made, almost invisible aligners are made from a mould of your teeth. Each set is worn on average for two weeks, moving your teeth gradually. They are removable so you will be able to continue to eat, brush and floss with ease and most people won’t even notice you have them.
The Damon System is the biologically sensible way of moving teeth for improved tooth position and facial aesthetics. It is often possible to align teeth without extractions to achieve the best facial balance. This can mean greater comfort, fewer appointments and reduced treatment time.
Incognito Custom-made of gold, these braces are fixed to the back of your teeth so they are invisible. They are easily tolerated, very effective and teeth are less prone to damage from decalcification and decay.
What is Orthodontics
Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of dental irregularities such as crooked, crowded, protruding teeth and poor jaw alignment. Its aim is to produce a healthy, functional bite, creating greater resistance to disease and improving personal appearance. This, in turn, contributes to mental and physical well being. Orthodontic treatment may also be carried out in partnership with your dentist to correct the position of teeth before provision of dental restorations such as implants or crowns and bridges.
Nowadays, with the improved appearance of modern cosmetic braces, an increasing number of adults are choosing orthodontic treatment. Cosmetic appliances which are less conspicuous are available and include ‘invisible’ removable aligners, or clear coloured fixed appliances. Recent innovations have led to the development of low friction braces, such as the Damon system, that can align the teeth more quickly, comfortably and usually without the need for extractions, even when there is a severe crowding problem. These braces are available privately for both adults and children.
Clear Fixed Braces
For aesthetics
We’re proud to offer Inspire ICE™, the highest quality aesthetic braces on the market. Their patented sapphire material makes Inspire ICE the only crystal-clear braces available. They’re not only discreet, they’re virtually invisible.
Some aesthetic braces are white or coloured to match a particular tooth colour. But since we all have different tooth shades, these braces frequently stand out. Inspire ICE crystal-clear braces are the most discreet braces available, regardless of tooth colour. Plus, they won't stain or discolour over time, so you'll look great throughout your treatment.
For Uncompromised Results
Removable clear aligners may seem like a tempting cosmetic alternative to fixed braces. However fixed braces may be the only option for treatment of more severe crowding or bite problems. With INSPIRE ICE, you’ll enjoy uncompromised results with the aesthetics you desire.
For Comfort
Inspire ICE is made with a patented smoothing process for maximum comfort. That’s just another reason why 96% of patients recently surveyed chose Inspire ICE over other aesthetic braces. Make the only clear choice for yourself – choose Inspire ICE.
Damon System
At Park Lane Orthodontics, we offer the latest technology in braces.
The Damon system is a relatively new fixed appliance that reduces the friction between the wire and bracket. This allows teeth to move more quickly, predictably and with lighter forces than conventional braces.
Braces are the beginning, but the system makes the smile.
The Damon System is not just another brace, it’s a whole new way of treating patients. Conventional treatment often requires removal (extraction) of healthy teeth to make space, but the Damon System makes space naturally for the crowded teeth to be aligned by gently expanding the dental arches thus avoiding extraction in most cases.
Damon smiles are full, natural 10-tooth smiles achieved with light, biologically sensible forces which work with the body’s natural adaptive processes.
“Damon braces are designed to be discreet, comfortable and easy to keep clean. Without the elastic ties which attract and collect plaque, Damon braces make dental hygiene easy during treatment.”
Nearly Invisible Braces
ClearStep™
Clearstep is a series of clear positioning aligners, custom-made from a mould of the teeth, which gently guide your teeth from their present to the desired position. They are worn nearly full time, but removed for meals and tooth brushing.
How does it work?
Believe it or not your teeth are always moving, albeit minutely. Clearstep exerts gentle pressure upon the teeth in the direction in which you'd like them to move.
Who does it work for?
Clearstep is suitable for patients over the age of 16 with mild to moderate crowding conditions.
Visit the ClearStep website for further information.
Completely Invisible Braces
Incognito is the modern and invisible alternative to conventional braces
Incognito is a high-tech appliance suitable for patients with most types of orthodontic problems. It is completely invisible as the braces are attached straight to the back of your teeth. It is easy to keep clean and the only one who knows you are having orthodontic treatment is you. It is designed only for your teeth so not only does this mean it is a perfect fit but that you will get perfect results. The remarkable flat design of the gold alloy brackets (anti-allergic) provides maximum patient comfort and rapid adaptation to speech.
What are the benefits of Incognito Lingual Braces?
Incognito Lingual Braces do not distort lip contours and are virtually unnoticeable in normal social situations. Lingual Braces provide the same results as conventional braces, in the same amount of time. Unlike treatment with conventional braces, however, the tongue and speech will be affected initially. The vast majority of patients will adapt to this type of brace within a month.
Testimonials
Ben wanted to have his teeth straightened in the most efficient way possible. When he heard about the benefits of the Damon system, he chose to have that fitted to reduce the time of his treatment.
The result was achieved 6 months quicker than a conventional brace and as you can read in the testimonial, he was really pleased with the result.
Testimonial
“Park Lane Orthodontics have been exceptional. Their approach and commitment to service has represented value for money and delivered great results. I would highly recommend them”
Even though Fiona only had mild crowding of her teeth, she decided to have the Damon brace to achieve a fuller smile.
As you can see from the results, not only does she have lovely straight teeth but also there is a subtle but noticeable improvement in the fullness of the lips and smile following treatment.
Testimonial
“Having my teeth straightened has had a positive effect on my life. I can now smile with confidence! The whole process was made all the more easier by Ben and his great staff. The final result is everything I hoped for. I certainly recommend the treatment to anyone of any age”
Jade had her canines (eye teeth) stuck in the roof of the mouth. They were uncovered and needed to be aligned. Conventional brace treatment would have required the removal of two upper adult teeth in order to allow the canines to come into line. By the use of the Damon system we were able to widen the upper arch to allow room to align these teeth, as well as give Jade a fuller smile without extractions.
Testimonial
“Since my braces has come off I haven’t stopped smiling. My confidence has shot up and I love it! A massive thank you to all at Park Lane Orthodontics. You made my day, month, year and life! Thank You!”
Lauren was concerned about her crooked upper teeth. We noticed that she didn’t show much of her upper teeth when smiling. Her upper teeth hung down excessively over the lower teeth (increased overbite) which also needed correction.
Testimonial
“Having my teeth corrected has been the best thing I have ever done. I am extremely pleased with the result, and can not stop smiling. Everyone at the practice has been very helpful and friendly. I would recommend the treatment to anyone who has a problem with there teeth. Very well worth it!”
Lisa came to see us about her gappy front teeth. She unfortunately had a missing adult tooth on the top left of her jaw that had never grown, and also the same tooth on the top right was very slim. This allowed the rest of her top front teeth to drift apart giving her a gappy appearance. Using the "ICE" cosmetic fixed brace, we worked in partnership with her general dentist. Once the teeth were aligned and the correct amount of space was made by the brace, Lisa’s dentist provided her with a veneer to build up the width of the tooth on the right, and a bridge to replace the missing tooth on the left. We were able to achieve a fantastic end result that as you can see from her own words Lisa is absolutely delighted with.
Testimonial
"I am so pleased with my new smile! I am 28 years old and have never smiled so much in my life. I didn't think it was possible that my gappy teeth would have turned out so perfect. I was nervous at first about having braces at my age, but it really wasn't that bad at all, in fact nobody really noticed I had them on!. It was so worth it just to be able to smile with confidence instead of covering my mouth with my hand. Ben is a genius and all the staff at Park Lane Orthodontics have been so friendly and helpful. Thank you :)"
Sophie came to see us as she was unhappy with the way her front teeth looked. As you can see, two of the front teeth are more prominent than the middle front two teeth (which are also angled backwards). Conventional braces would have corrected this problem for Sophie, but two upper teeth would have had to be removed in order to straighten the front teeth.
Not only did the Damon system give her a fantastic smile, but she was able to keep all of her teeth.
Testimonial
" Having straight teeth has changed my life completely. Before, I wouldn't smile because I hated the way my teeth looked. Now I smile all the time! It was definitely worth it!"
Tim came to the practice to have treatment for his severe tooth crowding. Conventional orthodontic treatment with fixed braces would have involved extracting 4 adult teeth in order to allow correction of the crowding.
With the Damon brace we were able to align all of his teeth avoiding the need for tooth extractions.
Testimonial
“Having my teeth straightened was much quicker and easier than I had expected. I am now much more confident about my smile!
I would recommend the DAMON system and Park Lane Orthodontics to any one considering braces.
Many thanks to the Park Lane Orthodontics team!!”

Fixed Braces
What to expect
Fixed appliances are braces that are attached to the teeth. They consist of brackets and wires that apply gentle forces to move the teeth into the ideal position. A typical course of treatment will be around 18 to 24 months.
The first few days the mouth and teeth will be adjusting to the brace, and it is normal to experience slight discomfort. During this period it is advisable to take some analgesics such as Ibuprofen or Paracetamol. The brace may rub the lips or cheeks; this can be relieved by placing wax from the starter pack over the relevant area of the brace.
When the brace is first fitted, it is not uncommon for the upper teeth to touch the lower brackets. This will change as treatment progresses; however it is important to avoid biting heavily on the brace. As the teeth start to align, the wire may start to protrude from the back of the brace. If this is the case, it means the teeth are straightening rapidly; however if the wire is irritating the cheek the wax should be used. If there is a lot of wire protruding, please contact the practice so it can be trimmed. It is also common to see small spaces appear as the angulation of the teeth is corrected. Please do not be alarmed, these spaces will be closed as treatment progresses.
You may need to wear elastic bands to improve the bite of the teeth. Elastics are normally worn for 24 hours a day and are only taken out for eating and tooth brushing. They need to be changed every 12 hours. Always carry some spare elastics with you in case a band breaks.
Fixed appliances are normally adjusted every 6-10 weeks. Clearly, attending your appointments is essential to ensure the quickest and best result possible. If a breakage occurs please contact the practice so that the brace can be repaired at the next available appointment.
Please maintain regular visits to your dentist and hygienist throughout your orthodontic treatment.
Care of Your Braces
Care of Your Fixed Braces
You are now wearing fixed braces and you need to take great care of them. Treatment takes, on average, 18-24 months from the day the brace is fitted.
Diet
To ensure treatment runs smoothly and efficiently it is important to avoid certain foods that may break the brace. Hard foods such as raw vegetables and apples should be cut into small pieces. French bread and pizza crusts are common brace breakers! Chewing sticky sweets, gum and toffees should also be avoided.
It is also important to reduce your intake of erosive drinks such as fizzy drinks and fruit juices. Similarly, sugary drinks such as squash, should be limited to meal times.
Cleaning
You will be provided with a starter pack which includes everything you need to look after your teeth and brace.
When you have a brace it will take slightly longer to clean your gums and teeth. Ideally, you should brush after every meal. It is important to pay particular attention to the gum-tooth junction. If your gums bleed it is usually a sign of inflammation caused by a build up of plaque. Meticulous cleaning will resolve the inflammation and bleeding. Inter-space (spiral) brushes should be used in addition to a normal toothbrush, in order to clean between the brackets and under the wire. Poor brushing not only leads to swollen gums but may also cause early decay (decalcification) that shows up as white marks on the teeth.
Disclosing tablets can be used to identify areas that are not being brushed properly. The tablets should be chewed for one minute with the saliva being spread over all tooth surfaces using your tongue. Areas of plaque will be stained pink or purple and should be removed with further brushing.
Fluoride Mouthwash should be used daily to help protect the teeth. Use the mouthwash at a separate time to brushing your teeth to gain the maximum benefit.
Functional Braces
Care of Your Functional Brace
The success of your treatment depends on wearing this brace to the absolute maximum. It is to be worn at all times, including eating, sleeping and going to school. Your brace should only be removed for cleaning, swimming or contact sports. For more information please also see advice page for removable braces.
Ramovable Braces
Care of Your Removable Brace
The success of your treatment depends on wearing your brace as much as possible. All removable appliances are to be worn full-time unless instructed otherwise. Full-time means virtually 24 hours a day, including eating, sleeping and going to school or work. The only time the brace is to be removed is after meals to clean both your teeth and the brace and during sports and games (including swimming).
ClearStep Aligners
Care of Your ClearStep Aligners
When to wear: Your aligners are most effective when worn continuously for at least 20 hours per day. They can be removed for eating and cleaning.
What to expect: As with any type of brace, there will be some initial discomfort. Your aligners also cover your gums and you may notice some pressure on the gum in one or two areas. Usually this will diminish after a few days. However if you experience prolonged discomfort you may find it can be eased by carefully trimming the part of the aligner that is pressing with a pair of sharp nail scissors. Take care not to trim any part of the aligner that covers the teeth. If in doubt, please phone the practice on (0118) 9411628.
Timescales: Each aligner is worn for around 10 to 14 days. You should only move onto the next aligner(s) when the one you are currently wearing feels very loose to fit and remove. Try not to change aligners before 10 days in order to allow time for your teeth and gums to adapt to the changes.
Cleaning: As you are wearing your aligners for most of the day and night they will begin to get a build up of bacteria and food residue on the surface. It is therefore very important to clean them carefully to prevent gum problems and odours. They should be rinsed under warm running water (never hot) and brushed with a soft bristle toothbrush to remove the residue. You should never use toothpaste to clean them. Two to three times a week the aligner can be soaked in Retainer Brite or similar to disinfect it and remove any odours. After meals, it is advisable to clean your teeth before re-fitting your aligners.
When to contact us for your next visit: So that you do not experience any unnecessary delays in your treatment, we ask that you contact the practice to book your next appointment when you have just put in aligner number six. This is because the appointment diary is normally booked a few weeks ahead and we like to allow you enough time for your appointment to receive the attention you require.
Removable Retainers
Care of Your Removable Retainer(s)
Today the orthodontist has fitted your removable retainers. These constitute a very important part of your treatment. If you do not wear your retainers exactly as instructed your teeth will start to drift back to their old position (this is called relapse) and all your hard work and that of the orthodontist will go to waste. Please read the following instructions carefully.
Retainers must initially be worn day and night, except for meals. They should be worn during sleeping and even while on holiday. They should only be removed to brush your teeth and the brace after meals and during contact sports or swimming. Do not think, as many patients do, that you can leave the retainers out for a week or two when you please and that everything will be all right when you put them back in. Not so! They may not fit, as the teeth may have moved.
When the retainers are out of your mouth they should be stored in a brace box, which can be obtained at the reception desk. It is very difficult to break or lose your retainers while they are in your mouth!
Please be careful with your retainers as you have to pay for lost appliances (minimum of £60 per retainer).
If you do break or lose your retainers you must telephone the surgery immediately on (0118) 9411628. It will take up to a week to mend or replace and the teeth may move in the meantime. The sooner we know that there is a problem the sooner we can sort it out. If you are in doubt, please contact the surgery; do not take chances with your retainers.
You may be asked to wear your retainers 24 hours a day for at least the first 3 months. If, at the next check, all is well then you may be advised to go down to wearing them at night only.
All teeth have a tendency to move during life. Wearing retainers will minimise this. If you had NHS treatment, the NHS allows for supervision of retention for one year only. It is your decision when to stop wearing your retainers after this year. The orthodontist will be happy to see you after this period if your retainers are lost or broken.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOUR RETAINERS FORM AN IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR TREATMENT. TEETH SHOULD NOT MOVE IF THE RETAINERS ARE WORN AS DIRECTED. THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF RELAPSE IS DUE TO NOT WEARING THE RETAINERS SUFFICIENTLY.
PLEASE BRING YOUR RETAINERS WITH YOU TO EACH CHECK-UP.
You should continue to attend your own dentist for regular check-ups.
Fixed Wire Retainers
Care of Your Fixed Wire Retainer(s)
Your Orthodontist has fitted a wire retainer which is glued to the back of the upper and/or lower front teeth to help keep them in their new position. These are usually left in place for several years. However, they have a limited lifespan.
To help prolong the life of your retainer(s) you should try to be careful when eating food that may damage the retainers (such as granary bread, hard sweets or anything that needs to be bitten off by your front teeth). Also avoid habits such as chewing pen tops or biting your fingernails!
Each time you clean your teeth brush the back of your teeth around the retainers thoroughly to prevent problems such as gum disease or tooth decay.
If you notice any difference in the feel of the retainer(s) such as sharp edges or a loose piece of glue, this could mean part of the retainer has become unglued. You should phone the practice during normal working hours to arrange an appointment to have the retainer checked and repaired if necessary. Please remember a broken wire retainer will not keep your teeth straight.
In rare circumstances, undesirable movement of the teeth may occur if the wire retainer becomes bent or damaged.
Your retainer(s) will be supervised by us for twelve months. After this time your dentist can check your retainer(s) for you but may refer you back to us if necessary.
If your treatment was carried out under the NHS and you are under the age of 18 there may be a charge for repairs to or replacement of your retainer(s). If you are over the age of 18 or were treated privately you will be charged a fee for this service.
Emergencies
Occasionally, minor problems may arise with your brace. Please telephone the practice on (0118) 9411628 for advice. If there is no-one there to take your call, you will either be asked to leave a message (messages are checked regularly) or if the practice is closed for holidays you will be given an alternative telephone number to contact.
There follows some information which may help to relieve anxiety or enable you to deal with the problem without a visit to the surgery. If in doubt please do telephone us.
Fixed braces
Patients wearing fixed braces will experience some tenderness during the first few days after wire changes. Most patients don't find this tenderness a problem, but occasionally a few patients need some help through these early days and paracetamol or ibuprofen can be taken.
If a component of the brace feels sharp then you should use the relief wax provided. Should this not solve the problem you must telephone the practice for advice. Sometimes a little bit of wire is exposed during treatment and this may need to be trimmed.
Don't panic if a piece of the brace breaks. It is seldom an emergency. Just telephone the practice. If the surgery is closed please leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.
Removable braces
The plastic on removable appliances can chip. As long as the brace still fits this is not a problem. Sharp edges can be smoothed using fine sandpaper or an emery board. If a metal component breaks or if broken plastic is uncomfortable you must telephone for an appointment. Please wear the brace as instructed if at all possible until you see the orthodontist.
Retainers (removable or fixed)
If you do break or lose your retainers you must telephone the surgery immediately on (0118) 9411628. It will take up to a week to mend or replace and the teeth may move in the meantime. The sooner we know that there is a problem the sooner we can sort it out. If you are in doubt, please contact the surgery; do not take chances with your retainers.
If you are able to wear your removable retainer(s), try to do this during the daytime only, until you have been seen at the practice. You should avoid wearing a loose or broken retainer during sleep.
