Incognito (Lingual braces) – a fixed, invisible solution

Lingual braces provide a high quality treatment and bring huge cosmetic benefits. Like traditional metal braces, they are a fixed appliance but the key difference is that they are ‘invisible’ to others as they sit on the inside surface of your teeth.

Lingual braces for adults

Orthodontic treatment can be a daunting prospect because of the change to your appearance, but as mentioned above, lingual braces sit on the tongue side of the teeth. Since 2011, 1 in 5 patients undergoing orthodontic treatment is an adult and this rise is no surprise when there are cosmetically unobtrusive treatment options (such as lingual braces) available now.

Lingual braces and their ever-evolving design…..

Manufacturers of lingual hardware are constantly making design amendments to improve the quality of braces. Such improvements include producing smaller brackets and making brackets contours more rounded and smooth to maximise patient comfort – they also reduce tongue irritation and speech difficulties during treatment.

Your orthodontist here at Park Lane will take impressions of your upper and lower teeth, so that your braces are bespoke. The impressions will be sent to the dental laboratory so that the hardware elements (brackets and wires) can be created.

Applying your braces – Your orthodontist will apply cement to each of your brackets and then place the applicator tray holding them in place, over your teeth. The applicator tray is designed to ensure that each of your brackets says in perfect alignment until the cement has settled.

Orthodontic treatment and health benefits

Lingual braces offer outstanding cosmetic benefits, both when they are on and once they are off! But orthodontic treatment also offers significant health benefits. When you have misaligned teeth, your ability to break certain foods down is impaired and if this has been the case for a long period of time, your digestion can also suffer.

Large gaps in your teeth will also cause a build up of bacteria in the form of plaque and tartar. If left untreated, this can lead to gum disease and gingivitis.

Principal benefits:

  • Cosmetic benefits – whilst you’re undergoing treatment, you need not worry about your appearance changing, as no-one will notice your braces.
  • Amazing results – lingual braces offer outstanding, precise results – if you look after your teeth during treatment, you will have perfectly aligned teeth!
