Removable Braces
If your child of between 9-12 years we may begin with these simple braces.
These are lightweight plastic braces usually worn on the upper teeth, but sometimes on the lower teeth too. These can be used earlier in your child’s life to help build the initial foundations of bite correction and compliance.
Removable braces are generally worn in the day or night helping to straighten teeth, expand teeth, correct deep bites or reduce large over jets.
Functional Braces
These are upper and lower removable braces that help manage problems with your child’s bite and the way their teeth close together. Common bite issues include upper or lower front teeth that protrude and make a stronger, truer ‘bite’ difficult for your child.
Functional, or ‘bite correction’, braces are worn on both the top or bottom set of teeth on a full-time basis. They help guide your child’s teeth and their ‘bite’ into the ideal position comfortably and effectively.
These are most effective when the child is going through a growth spurt. Treatments usually last 6-9 months depending on the growth and overall compliance. The majority of the children will then have a second phase of treatment that include fixed braces.
