One of the biggest concerns that prevent patients going ahead with orthodontics is they are worried that brace treatment and straightening teeth is painful. This is a natural concern for anyone of any age, but as adults we actively shy away from things that cause us pain. How many of us put off going to see the dentist or hygienist because of it? However, we are happy to pop along to see the Doctor for a vaccination jab so we can go on exotic holidays, and ladies – regularly you will attend to your personal grooming either yourself or with the help of a beautician. Why do you do it? Because despite the slight discomfort, you see the benefit and you’re prepared to brave it.
So is having orthodontic brace treatment any different? I would say no. It is normal to experience some minor discomfort for a few days after having the braces fitted and the occasional twinge after routine adjustments. However this is usually mild and there are lots of ways to ease it. In fact, most people are surprised how little discomfort they experience. But what do you gain? Apart from straighter natural teeth, you get the confidence to smile. Even better, it helps you be the person you always wanted to be. Don’t believe me?
