Orthodontics can be a baffling subject with a lot of complex language and context that can sometimes feel like jargon to a layman! So we’ve put together some common questions asked by patients to help you understand a little more about the treatment, appliances and our practice here in Reading.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
This depends on the type of problem you are having corrected. For example, more fundamental orthodontic problems like teeth that are critically misaligned or jaw problems can take longer to tackle than a minor spacing issue. Your orthodontist here at Park Lane will speak to you during your consultation about the types of treatment that best suit the issue in question and you can make an informed decision with them about this.
I thought braces were just for children?
There was a time when braces and correcting orthodontic issues were purely for children and young people. However, over 20% of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment are adults and there is no longer any stigma attached to having a ‘metal mouth’, in fact in certain Asian countries braces have become a fashion accessory – we’re not sure we recommend this though!
Are there discreet brace types available?
Here at Park Lane we offer ‘invisible’ brace types which include Invisalign, Incognito and 2D braces. You may also have more cosmetic braces on the outside of the teeth that match the colour and blend in with your smile.
What if I just want to correct my front teeth?
You can! We offer a treatment known as ‘Smile Rapide’ which is aimed at correcting less fundamental orthodontic issues such as realigning front teeth. This kind of treatment is great if you have a special occasion coming up and you’d like to look your best. Smile Rapide can take as little as 6 months.
Do I need an orthodontist to fit me with braces?
There are some dentists who offer select orthodontic treatment options and have attended short training courses to certify them to carry these out. However braces are not always suitable for all orthodontic issues or more complex issues.
Can I book an appointment at Park Lane online?
