Sometimes orthodontists will recommend the removal of healthy teeth to get the best bite, to reduce how much front teeth stick out, or in cases where there is so much crowding there is no way to straighten the teeth and get them all to fit in.
However, more often than not, we can avoid extractions.
For example, it isn’t always important to patients that the top and bottom jaw line up perfectly for that perfect bite, or that the front teeth stick out a little bit, because they are happy to have a straighter smile and the slight prominence of the teeth is not a concern. So we can focus on giving the result the patient wants and not remove any teeth to achieve this.
We can also use alternative brace systems such as DAMON to align crowded teeth in ways normal braces can’t. The use of this brace often avoids the need for tooth removal.
We tailor the treatments we offer to each individual patient, listening to what they want so we can find the ideal solution for them. This in turn gives the best result possible, whilst avoiding extraction of healthy teeth, to get that fantastic smile.
