So many questions need to be answered before embarking on orthodontic treatment. In the first of Paula’s 2-part blog she answers the top 10 posed questions about teeth straightening and wearing a brace.
Do you get the same treatment result from all braces?
No, because not all braces are the same. There are lots of simpler “braces” available that promise great results, but the most effective teeth straightening solution for most people is full treatment with fixed braces.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Worthwhile results take time. Fast treatment solutions are available but with this type of treatment it’s often harder to keep the orthodontic result stable for the long term. The roots of the teeth need to be moved to ensure long term stability so really the minimum treatment time would be 9-12 months.
At what age can you have orthodontic treatment?
There is no upper age limit on brace treatments – if you have healthy teeth and gums you can have your teeth straightened. Children can start brace treatment from the age of 8.
How much does orthodontics cost?
If you think of braces as a ‘product’ they seem like a lot of money – with fixed brace treatment ranging from £2,000 to £8,500 or more. But what you are really paying for is straight teeth and the expertise and time of the orthodontist who is fitting and adjusting the brace in order to make your smile better for the long-term.
What is a Specialist Orthodontist?
Specialist Orthodontists are qualified dentists who have gone back to University to train for 3 further years in diagnosis, treatment planning and delivery of orthodontics. Hence they are specialists in providing brace treatments.
